In life, we experience moments where one bad thing leads to another. 🙅🏻♀️
These are the days when we feel like the universe is against us! 🌌
Sometimes, we experience it in a day, while in some cases, the bad things seem to happen for a couple of days or even to a week, or worse, longer that sometimes it feels like it’s never going to end! 🤯
The thing is, we all experience bad things but how we deal with them is what makes us different.
What we don’t realize is that negative things are a part of our lives. As they say, you can’t experience the sun ☀️ without a little rain. ☔️ It could be a simple coffee spill, getting stuck in traffic, losing your keys, to break-ups and what-not, that can push us on the edge of madness!
What I realize is this — what makes them actually worse is how we RESPOND to them. How we cope with the negativities in our lives.
And the way we respond may help us slip into these negative behaviors:
- Self-victimization
- Reactive
- Self-blame
It’s normal to react negatively when something bad happens to us but we tend to go into a “prolonged” reaction to it that it turns it into negative behavior.
When you respond negatively to a negative thing, you only get more negativity in your life. So, why waste time?
I say, spend a couple of fo minutes, an hour or two, to mull over it, process it, and then get over it.
I know, it’s easier said than done, but it’s doable.
In the midst of bad things, here are things that you can do:
Always Remember that Things Happen FOR Us
Those bad things that happen to you don’t happen because the universe is out to get you, but it happens FOR you. It’s so easy to frame the mind that bad things happen “to” you and when the mind is used to this kind of thought pattern, you will find yourself stuck in sadness and confusion. ☹️
Bad things are almost always opportunities in disguise. When a bad thing happens to you, slowly adopt the mentality that it’s happening for you and there are opportunities behind it that you can use to your advantage.
Every Thing Ends
In this world, nothing is meant to stay forever — and the same thing applies to the negative things that happen in our lives. No matter how bad the situation is, learn to cope with it by thinking that it will all be over soon because it’s not meant to last; and when it finally ends, the feeling is amazing.
They Happen to Make You Stronger
Everything that we go through — positive or negative — will change us somehow. It’s up to you to make sure that it will change you for the better.
Let the bad things happen, and let the feelings of despair, anger or grief help you grow and flourish into a better human being. 💪🏻
Feel It
I know that when a bad thing happens, all you want to do is run away from it. This isn’t the smartest thing to do. What you actually need to do is to sit down with it and feel it. Feel every pain and emotion inside you. Don’t bury a painful feeling by distracting yourself or being in denial.
Burying emotions without dealing with them won’t heal you — it will only let you hold a grudge. That’s why you need to allow a feeling and embrace it as something that is meant to happen in your life instead of avoiding it. When you feel and process it, you’ll be able to heal properly, which will set you free from those negative emotions that stemmed from the bad things that happened in your life.
Life always has a way to make sure that we end up where we need to be, but we also need to be prepared to embrace the opportunities that sometimes come disguised as setbacks.
If everything was within our control, we won’t be able to see all the opportunities that are present in our lives.
When bad things happen, think about it as friction that’s needed to spark a fire. 🔥
